Girls' Education

The Global Partnership will ensure that more girls enrol in school and receive a quality education.

Our new strategy will ensure that more girls enrol in school and receive a quality education.

The education of girls in developing countries is important to girls’ own quality of life, and their ability to make informed choices.  It is also critical to a country’s social and economic well being as it promotes the health and welfare of the next generation. It can reduce poverty and curb unsustainable population growth. An educated female population increases a country’s productivity and fuel economic growth.

The challenges

  • A large number of girls are out of school;
  • The completion rates and learning levels of girls are low;
  • Participation of girls decreases as they progress through the education system.

Our response will:

  • Increase gender parity and enrolment overall;
  • Provide strong incentives, technical and financial support to developing country partners, to include gender strategies in their education plans;
  • Support the enrolment of out-of-school girls into primary school;
  • Ensure that girls make the crucial transition to and through secondary school.
