Many developing countries and emerging economies rank poorly in international math learning assessments. But basic reading, writing and math skills are key to findin

g better paid employment later in life and countries increasingly depend on a skilled workforce for economic development.

That’s why the Global Partnership for Education made improving learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy in pre-school and early grades one of the strategic objectives in its 2012–2015 Strategic Plan.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has promoted numeracy skills of pre- and primary school children through knowledge sharing activities and interventions of its bilateral education programs.

The GIZ has now produced a Knowledge Map to Numeracy in Pre-School and Early Grades. This knowledge map makes relevant information available to global education actors committed to improving education quality in numeracy and early math.

The map is organized by categories as well as thematic areas. It provides relevant information such as publications, conferences, webinars, and specific country interventions in Benin, Honduras, Kosovo, Malawi and Peru.

By clicking on the headings displayed on the knowledge map (see screenshot below), you will either be directed to the respective two-page factsheet within the document or to more information online. Each factsheet provides a comprehensive overview and links to further information or contact details.
