Malala Yousafzai could be like any teenage girl. Except that in her home country, Pakistan, some think that girls shouldn’t go to school. The Taliban shot Malala in the head while she was riding the bus to school in October 2012. Thankfully she recovered and has since been a tireless education advocate for all children around the world. Here are our favorite quotes from Malala, an education advocate for the Global Partnership for Education:

1. “We are stronger than those who oppress us, who seek to silence us. We are stronger than the enemies of education. We are stronger than fear, hatred, violence and poverty.” - Read Malala’s op-ed in the Washington Post

2. “Education is the best weapon we have to fight poverty, ignorance and terrorism.” - See Malala’s post in the Guardian

3. “Today of all days, we must all work together for those boys and girls who have been promised education but have no access to school.” - Watch Malala’s video for the Global Partnership for Education Second Replenishment Pledging Conference

4. “We call upon all governments to ensure free compulsory education all over the world for every child.  We realize the importance of light when we see darkness. We realize the importance of voice when we are silenced." - Watch the “Girls with Books: A New Global Power” video from A World at School

5.  “One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” - Watch Malala’s speech on her 16th birthday at the United Nations
