A Program Implementation Grant provides funding for three-year programs that support the implementation of an Education Sector Plan. Through this grant, GPE supports countries as they work towards the Education for All goals as well as in consideration of the Global Partnership’s priorities and objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan.

The Program Implementation Grant is one of 3 financial mechanisms of the GPE Fund.

Grants in Action

Sierra Leone is using a Program Implementation Grant to expand access and improve the quality of basic education. Money is being put towards improved facilities, with the goal of constructing and rehabilitating over 300 basic classrooms and outfitting them with desks, chairs and chalkboards. Education quality will be improved by expanding teacher in-service training and professional development.

Assessment and Eligibility

GPE’s Board of Directors decides on the amount of the grant allocation based on the Global Partnership Needs and Performance Framework, which determines how much financial support is available for the developing country partners for the three-year grant period. The list of these countries is reviewed annually and all changes are approved by the Board of Directors.

All IDA I and II countries that are members of the Global Partnership for Education, as well as IDA III countries that are categorized as fragile states or are small island states, are eligible.
