Global Partnership for Education Fund

Global Partnership for Education Fund

The Global Partnership for Education Fund ('GPE Fund') finances all Partnership's activities:

  • Technical support and the development and implementation of education plans in developing countries;
  • Dissemination of knowledge and best practices in education at the global and regional levels;
  • Financing of the Secretariat's operations.

The GPE Fund was launched in October 2011 and supports activities aligned with the Global Partnership for Education's mission to enroll more children in school for a better education.

All decisions about funding are made by the Global Partnership's Board of Directors. Donors to the GPE Fund include bilateral and multilateral partners.

Support for country-level activities

The Global Partnership provides 3 types of grants to support its developing country partners' education goals and objectives: Education Plan Development Grant, Program Development Grant, and Program Implementation Grant,

Grants support includes:

  • Technical support to prepare or revise a sound education plan;
  • Implementation of an education plan;
  • Development of a program to support the implementation of an Education Plan;
  • Costs associated with direct grant supervision.

Support at the global and regional levels

The Global and Regional Activities (GRA) supports knowledge development, capacity building and experience sharing to achieve better education results across the Partnership. Funds are allocated to address 3 critical areas: Learning Outcomes, Education Financing and Out of School Children.

GRA funding aims to support:

  • Knowledge sharing and policy dialogue on good practices in education;
  • Activities focused on improving the Global Partnership accountability by strengthening availability and quality of data.

Note: The Global Partnership for Education has provided support to countries' education plans for nearly a decade through the Catalytic Fund and the Education Program Development Fund (EPDF). From 2012, the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Fund replaces all previous funds.
