In February 2017, the Global Partnership for Education Secretariat approved the following grant:

US$500,000 for Eritrea to finance the education sector analysis and education sector plan

Description: The Education Sector Plan Development Grant will allow Eritrea to conduct a comprehensive and targeted education sector analysis (ESA) to provide a comprehensive picture of the education system and provide analysis of the evolution of the system over a decade.

To this end activities will include assessing the quality of the available data, conducting data analysis, validating findings and recommendations, and conducting a financial simulation. Five thematic studies will be conducted as part of the ESA. The outcome of the ESA will feed into the education sector plan.

The grant will also finance activities related to drafting the education sector plan, carrying out consultations on new/revised strategies, and the validation of the final draft. UNICEF, a key partner of the Global Partnership for Education, has been nominated by the local education group to be the grant agent on behalf of the government of Eritrea.

Education sector plan development grants from GPE are intended to help countries perform strategic, consultative and analytical work to develop or revise their sector plan. Of the maximum grant amount of US$500,000, US$250,000 is reserved for education sector analysis, and the remainder for additional studies or to develop the sector plan.
