Kenya will launch in September a new national identity system allowing officials to track funds and cut costs. Every school in the country, both public and private, will be required to adopt the system, and every student will have a universal personal identification number assigned all throughout their studies. The system will make it easier to track students' progress, reduce bureaucracy and improve staff performance.

The deployment of this program was made possible in part thanks to a US$88.4 million grant from GPE. Some of the funds will go toward training teachers, printing and distributing textbooks, as well as monitoring and evaluation.
