More than 50 female teachers in Somaliland set to become administrators

53 female teachers from across Somaliland completed a two-year diploma course in school management and administration from a UNICEF-sponsored program funded by GPE and implemented by Somaliland’s Ministry of Education. With hopes that this initiative will promote gender-sensitive policies and result in more girl-friendly schools, the graduates are expected to take up leadership positions in schools where only 3% of head teachers are women. Women’s education contributes to improved health and nutrition, a development imperative to keep increasing the number of female administrators and supervisors.
