Washington, D.C., September 25, 2017 - It is with deep concern that we learned about the devastation that Hurricane Maria left in the Caribbean, including in Dominica, one of GPE’s partner countries.
We are saddened at the tragic loss of lives and massive disruption caused by the storm displacing thousands of families, including school children. Our thoughts are with the affected families and those working to assist them during this time of need.
Even in such a troublesome situation, it is critically important to ensure that children have a place where they can learn with friends and are psychologically cared for. It provides children a sense of normalcy and the support they need.
The Secretariat of the Global Partnership for Education is in contact with the Commission of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and development partners and preparing to provide necessary support to restore schools and children’s education as soon as possible.
