At the High-level pledging event in Geneva on April 25, 2017, the Global Partnership for Education pledged to continue its support to Yemen's education sector, including committing to provide about US$40 million over the next two years. Beyond funding, GPE's support includes convening partners, who have recently agreed to develop a transitional education sector plan for the next three years.
In this joint op ed by Alice Albright, GPE CEO, and Tove Wang, CEO of Save the Children Norway, explain that more financing is needed for education. Norway can play a crucial role to galvanize support from other G20 nations and ensure that millions of children in the world's poorest countries can get an education.
Launching a new funding drive for education involving governments, development organizations, and philanthropists, the replenishment of GPE will mark the beginning of a new era of education financing to reverse the trend of declining aid for education. GPE’s goal is to reach financing of US$2 billion a year by 2020.
