August, 25, 2016 – Yesterday’s attack on the American University in Kabul, Afghanistan which reportedly killed at least 12 and injured more than 50, mostly students, must be condemned in the strongest terms.
It is unacceptable that institutions of education are targeted in violent attacks.
Schools and universities must be safe places for young people, teachers and other staff to work and learn without fear of being attacked.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during the aftermath of this tragedy.
Afghanistan is a partner country of the Global Partnership for Education and has made remarkable progress in its education sector since 2001. GPE will continue to support Afghanistan to ensure that all Afghan children and youth can get a quality education.
