Since 2002, GPE partners have achieved remarkable results and helped millions more children enroll in school for a quality education. Here are 10 of our most important results.


1. PRIMARY SCHOOL ENROLLMENT

Since 2002 GPE partners have helped put 23 million more children in primary school1

6. TEXTBOOKS

Since 2003, 220 million textbooks have been distributed in primary schools in GPE countries.1

2. LITERACY

The literacy rates for youth between 15 and 24 years old in GPE countries increased from 77% in 2000–03 to 81% in 2007–10. This rate has grown more rapidly in conflict-affected GPE countries, from 56 to 69%.2

7. PRIMARY SCHOOL COMPLETION

The primary school completion rate in GPE countries has increased from 56% in 2002 to 71% in 20112

3. GIRLS' EDUCATION

68% of girls in GPE countries now finish primary school compared to 56% in 2002.3

8. EXTERNAL FINANCING

GPE has provided US$2.7 billion in financial aid to education between 2004 and 2012.4

4. TEACHERS

413,000 additional teachers were hired in GPE countries between 2002 and 2011.1

9. GENDER PARITY

Since 2000, 18 GPE countries have increased the number of girls completing primary school so that they now have as many girls as boys completing school.3

5. CLASSROOMS

Since 2003, GPE has contributed to the construction of over 37,000 classrooms1.

10. DOMESTIC FINANCING

Overall, the share of government expenditures allocated to education in GPE countries increased from 17% in 2000 to 19.4% in 20112.
