Cheikh Mbow

Cheikh Mbow is the Executive Director of the Coalition des Organisations en Synergie pour la Défense de l’Education Publique (Coalition of Organizations for Synergy in Defense of Public Education - COSYDEP). He holds a master’s degree in organizational management and is one of Senegal’s leading civil society figures, active in the field of education and training.

Mr. Mbow has worked tirelessly as an NGO official to promote greater synergy of action and concern for the rights of the most vulnerable. His work in this area has helped civil organizations in education become more involved in the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of education policies, resulting in more effective policy dialogue and better governance practices in the field of education. Since 2013, Mr. Mbow has played an active governance role in the Global Partnership for Education, serving four years as the civil society representative on the Board of Directors, four years on the Governance, Ethics, Risk and Finance Committee, and as a member of the Grants and Performance Committee since March 2019.

He has had a multifaceted career, serving as an education community monitor since 1988, one of the drafters of Senegal’s French Basic Education Curriculum Manual, a member of the National Scout Team from 1991 to 1995, a founding member of COSYDEP, author of a novel on interfaith dialogue, architect of the White Paper on the Renewal of the Education System in Senegal, delegate at numerous high-level forums, and lead consultant for various research teams on topics such as quality of learning outcomes in four African countries, Programme d’Appui au Renforcement de l’Enseignement Normal (Support Program for Regular Education in Mali - AREN), standardized assessments, and education financing in Senegal.

Mr. Mbow works in several areas, including organizational management, transformational leadership, policy dialogue and democratic governance, inclusive education, human rights and children’s rights, analysis and evaluation of education and training systems, organizational and institutional development, crisis-sensitive planning, study and evaluation of education programs, librarianship, reproductive health, and family life education.
