In Ghana, girls like these two students can hope for a better future thanks to the work of CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education. Ann Cotton, founder and president of CAMFED, won this year’s WISE prize for education. CAMFED was created in 1993 and has since helped hundreds of girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe to go to school. CAMFED seeks to empower young African women to succeed and become leaders of change in their countries.
