November 20th is Universal Children’s Day, which marks the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Education is not only a right in itself, but an enabler of all other rights.
In our world, 121 million children are out of school, 25 million are expected never to enter a classroom and 50% live in countries affected by conflict. Furthermore, 250 million children either don't make it to grade 4 or don't have basic skills in reading, writing and math by the time they reach grade 4.
We will not achieve our vision of a more prosperous, equitable, and healthier world if so many children are denied a chance to learn the skills they need to chart their own path and live up to their full potential.
To celebrate Universal Children’s Day, we are launching the GPE Instagram account. Along with our Twitter and Facebook channels, it is a new way to engage with GPE supporters and partners around the world.
