Members of the Education Data Solutions Roundtable are in Ethiopia this week to identify potential solutions for data-related challenges in the education sector.

The team includes representatives from multilateral and regional partners –UNICEF, UNESCO and its institutes, the African Union, ADEA– civil society organizations –ONE–, donors –NORAD– and the business community –HP, Intel, Mastercard, Microsoft, Tableau.

The Roundtable members met with the ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, school leaders, local education groups as well as with the Bureau of Statistics, and other social sector ministries like the ministry of Health to better understand their approach to data collection, dissemination and use.

The Ethiopian ministry of Education is leading the process and has been actively involved throughout the week.

GPE launched the Education Data Solutions Roundtable in February 2018, with the goal to leverage local, private and development partners’ expertise to improve the availability and use of accurate and timely education data at country and global level.

Quality education data is essential to inform planning and policy decisions by governments. Without data, it is impossible to build effective, resilient and accountable education systems.

Roundtable members will also visit The Gambia and present its final findings and recommendation in June 2019.
