Every school day in Haiti, more than 140,000 children in primary schools receive a morning snack and hot meal at lunch time. The meals ensure that the children continue to come to school. Some of them may not if the meals were not provided. The children also receive a deworming medicine twice yearly and a dose of Vitamin A annually.
The school meals and nutrients are part of a program led by the ministry of education and supported by funds from the World Bank, the Caribbean Development Bank and Canada. The Global Partnership for Education contributes also with a grant of US$24.1 million.
During the last school year (2014-2015), more than 76,000 students had benefitted from the program. Learning on a full stomach is much easier than hungry!
