Literacy is a human right and the foundation of learning. Yet, according to the GEM Report 2013/2014, approximately 1 in 4 young people in low and lower-middle income countries is illiterate.

Books are one of the main tools to fight illiteracy and have the power to enrich the lives of individuals.

The Global Partnership supports partner developing countries to produce and distribute textbooks to ensure that children can learn.

On the occasion of the World Book and Copyright Day, let’s remember the important role that books play in reducing illiteracy and in the dissemination and preservation of knowledge.

So true. A major challenge is how to get books into the hands of children. I would love to know places where I can get hold of books in French.
