Girls’ education advocate, Nobel Prize Laureate and UN Messenger for Peace Malala Yousafzai called on world leaders to support the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and fund education ahead of GPE’s financing conference on February 1 and 2 in Dakar, Senegal.

In a personal video message shared on the Malala Fund’s Twitter account, Malala implored “all governments, all countries and all world leaders” to support GPE and help get every girl and boy in school and receiving a quality education.

“We have to invest in our future,” she said.

Her video was shared widely on social media by partner organizations including ONE, UNICEF Norway, Global Citizen, the Norwegian Red Cross, the Global Campaign for Education, and Save the Children in the Netherlands, among others, with some partners directly tagging their governments to step up and meet Malala’s call to action. See their tweets below.

GPE’s goal to reach financing of US$2 billion a year by 2020 requires bold leadership from all partners, and support from advocates like Malala is crucial.

If this goal is achieved, it can result in better learning outcomes for 870 million children and youth in 89 countries, including getting an additional 9.4 million girls and 10.8 million children who live in conflict-affected areas in school.
