Accelerating Secondary Education for Girls: Focusing on Access and Retention

Educating girls has enormous social and economic benefits and has been identified as a primary means toward national development. Secondary education for girls can have an important impact on ensuring that countries reach the Millennium Development Goals for gender equality and women’s empowerment. This paper jointly produced by UNGEI and GPE discusses the recent efforts to engage girls and young women in education and the remaining challenges to progress.
