In February 2012, the Global Partnership for Education Secretariat launched an initiative to improve the monitoring of sector plans in response to demand from Local Education Groups (LEGs). As part of this initiative, the GPE Secretariat has organized 5 regional workshops to bring together representatives from partner countries, development partners, civil society organizations to discuss strategies for improving education sector plan monitoring systems and tools.

The Global Sector Monitoring Workshop in Paris will consolidate the work that came out of the regional workshops and subsequent discussions.
