Monitoring Learning Outcomes: Towards understanding the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic
MILO event with UNESCO and ACER

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted all areas of life. An increased reliance on home educational resources have caused substantial disruptions to learning for many children and are exacerbating learning inequities. The ambitious education goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda are threatened by nationwide and localised school closures around the world.

The Monitoring Impacts on Learning Outcomes (MILO) project has examined reading and mathematics outcomes in 6 countries in Africa, in order to determine the impact of COVID-19 on learning and to evaluate the effectiveness of distance learning mechanisms utilised during school closures.

The webinar will:

  • offer an overview of the availability of SDG learning proficiency indicator values and trends for Africa with the aim to better understand how existing patterns raise important questions around measurement accuracy, especially if changes over time are much larger than is generally seen around the world;
  • present the MILO project, including the project goals, study design and capacity development activities over the year of 2021; and
  • give the perspective of each of the pilot countries through reflections on their respective implementation activities, challenges and lessons learned.

DATE: 21 January 2022

TIME: 13:00 – 15:45 CET (Paris time)

The webinar will be held in English, with simultaneous translation in French and Spanish.
