GPE is strongly committed to the principles of development effectiveness adopted by the international community to achieve results in the education sector.
From its creation in 2002, the Global Partnership for Education has been set up and organized with development effectiveness principles at its core. GPE has adopted an approach that places developing countries in the driver’s seat, seeking to align and harmonize partners’ support to national priorities.
GPE has not only adopted effectiveness principles in its own Charter, but has also actively participated in, or contributed to, the various high-level meetings of the international community focusing on this topic, in Paris, Accra and Busan. GPE is also a member of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation.
GPE’s core belief is that development can only be effective and sustainable if it is owned by national governments, and if the support and financing provided by development partners is aligned and harmonized with governments’ priorities.
