Tizie Maphalala

Tizie Maphalala has been manager of the GPE program in UNICEF South Sudan since February 2014.  She is responsible for technical oversight for the planning, implementation as well as monitoring progress and reporting on South Sudan’s GPE Program “Delivering quality basic education in challenging circumstances” for which UNICEF serves as the managing entity. 

Tizie has more than 13 years of experience in education programming having previously worked for UNICEF in Ethiopia, Zambia, Eritrea and Swaziland. Prior to joining UNICEF she had over 10 years of experience as a teacher–educator, lecturing at the University of Swaziland.

Her career started as a secondary school teacher.  She has contributed to research publications and position papers on various education issues - curriculum, effective school environments and key social issues impacting orphans and vulnerable children in the Southern Africa sub-region. She is a national of Swaziland and holds M.Ed and B.Ed degrees.
