September 2018 – The Global Partnership for Education Secretariat approved the following grant:

US$200,000 to prepare a new education program in Kenya

Description: The program development grant (PDG) will support Kenya to design an additional financing component to the current implementation grant of US$88.4 million. The implementation grant supports the Kenya Primary Education Development Project (PRIEDE).

The PDG will help the collection and analysis of critical information regarding the performance and impact of ongoing PRIEDE activities, and the preparation of a concept note for an additional program. Specifically, the evaluation will mainly cover two areas of the project: early grade mathematics; and school improvement plans and school grants.

This grant will be implemented through the collaboration between the World Bank, a key partner of the Global Partnership for Education, as the Grant Agent and the Government of Kenya.

UNICEF has been nominated by the local education group to serve as coordinating agency in Kenya.
