Guinea Bissau Now 43rd Country to Join the EFA FTI Partnership

WASHINGTON, DC, September 30, 2010 -- Guinea Bissau’s Interim Education Sector Plan (2011-2013) was endorsed by the EFA FTI Partnership in September 2010. Members of the Local Education Group, including UNICEF, Brazil, Portugal, and Japan had worked on developing and appraising this plan since 2008. Earlier on, community and religious leaders, representatives from NGOs, teachers’ unions, and parents, provided feedback during consultative meetings and their views and concerns are integrated in the final document.

The plan will first tackle key issues such as building schools, buying textbooks, teacher training, and giving priority to primary education. Through the Interim Education Sector Plan, the Government of Guinea Bissau is aiming to re-build its whole education system and overcome a history of conflict and fragile governance.
