Washington, November 15, 2016 - Italy has more than doubled its 2016 contribution to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) from €1.5 million to €4 million.

“We are very thankful for Italy’s commitment to children’s education and the increased contribution to GPE,” said Alice Albright, CEO of the Global Partnership for Education. “We are looking forward to further strengthening our cooperation with the Italian government.”

At the 2014 GPE replenishment conference, Italy had pledged €6 million for the period 2015 to 2018 (€1.5 million per year).

Italy joined GPE in 2005 as a donor partner and since then has contributed a total of US$40.7 million to GPE. It shares a GPE Board constituency seat with the European Commission, France, Germany, and Spain.

“Italy has been growing its Official Development Assistance budget in recent years and 2017, when Italy hosts the G7, presents a fresh opportunity for the government to demonstrate global leadership in development,” Ms. Albright said.
