Kaduna State in Nigeria trains teachers to improve reading and writing in primary schools

Kaduna State in Nigeria held a training exercise for 5,834 primary school teachers and administrators on improving reading and writing in their classrooms. The lead on teacher professional development for the Global Partnership for Education explained that the training was designed to expose participants to Jolly Phonics. This approach is widely recognized as an effective way of teaching children how to read and write, and the government invested a lot of resources to expand the scope of the training.
