Kano State in Nigeria disburses N1.5 billion to support girls

Under a GPE grant, Kano State in Nigeria started the disbursement of N1.5 billion (approx. US$4.1 million) in scholarships to 34,698 schoolgirls in the state to improve access to quality education. 

The government has recruited 1,500 certified female teachers in the state to enhance teaching and learning outcomes in public schools. In addition, the government has also rehabilitated 14 primary schools in the state. He called on parents to use the scholarship to achieve the intended objective, making sure girls stay in school.
