Kenya mandates training for 90,000 primary school teachers

More than 90,000 primary school teachers in Kenya have been instructed to participate in a government-sponsored training to improve learning and teaching performance in primary schools. This training program, mandated under a Sh8.8 billion project funded by the Global Partnership for Education, comes amidst a Teachers Service Commission (TSC) warning that head teachers in schools that post low scores may not get promoted as part of performance appraisal initiatives being implemented. Schools have been put on an aggressive plan that provides them with an integrated set of interventions to improve performance.
