For the better part of 2017, the ministry of education in Kenya was testing an online system in education management. The exercise was carried out in about 600 learning institutions, and now the platform is ready for nationwide rollout. Students in primary and secondary school will be able to register and be assigned unique identification numbers that will track their performance. The system was developed by local talent thanks to a US$88.4 million grant from the Global Partnership for Education. While the platform offers digital solutions for challenges that have plagued the education sector especially in regard to keeping track of students’ progress, there is no current plan to deploy it in remote parts of the country, something that will need to be addressed.
