Washington D.C. February 17, 2021 – The Global Partnership for Education has received distressing reports of an attack against a school in Kagara, central Nigeria in which dozens of students and teachers were allegedly abducted. One student was reportedly killed in the attack.

Only two months ago, another attack against a school in Nigeria’s Katsina state saw hundreds of children abducted.

These attacks are a chilling reminder of the unacceptable risks children face to access education in Nigeria, where one third of primary-age children are out of school.

Schools and children should always be protected.

My thoughts are with the families affected by this frightful event.
