In Uganda, parents pay for the largest share of primary school costs

Despite the government of Uganda’s large expenditure in education, parents still pay for half of their children’s school fees. This high cost for families causes that children drop out of school, which is one of the reasons of the country’s very high primary school dropout rates. 

Uganda received a GPE grant of US$100 million for 2014-2018 to assist the implementation of it's education sector plan and help overcome some of the challenges that the education sector in this country faces.
