On World Humanitarian Day last week, a new campaign launched to support humanitarian aid operations that help people in need. The first-of-its-kind project has created a “marketplace for words” using hashtags on Twitter and Facebook.

Brands such as Western Union, Gucci and Intel are sponsoring words like “#education”. Between now and September 24, 2013, each time a sponsored word in combination with #TheWorldNeedsMore is shared on Twitter or Facebook, $1 of that sponsor’s donation is raised for humanitarian aid!

The word #education is sponsored by The Western Union Foundation which uses Western Union’s expertise in money transfers to support global education.  Their Education for Better program is a three-year commitment to grow young minds through grants for secondary education and vocational training.  Over the past year, Western Union has given over US $2.9 million to support education.
