The Government of Uganda and its partners, including Save the Children, launched a new plan that, if funded, will provide quality education for hundreds of thousands of refugee and host community children in Uganda.

The country, which hosts the largest number of refugees in Africa, has been serving as a model in the international community by granting refugees access to the same rights as its citizens. The influx is putting a severe strain on already limited school resources in local communities, and more financial support is urgently needed to ensure the plan can be implemented with success.

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and GPE worked together to ensure the refugee education planning process in Uganda was led by the ministry of Education and supported by the members of the local education group. The refugee education plan is aligned with the national education sector plan, developed with support from GPE.
