The Global Partnership for Education strongly condemns the violent attack on the Federal Ministry of Education in Mogadishu, Somalia, causing scores of casualties, including secondary students coming to the Ministry for their certificates.

Attacks against education facilities and personnel including government ministries are unacceptable. Education personnel and children caught up in conflict are not and must never be targets. My deepest sympathies go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this horrific incident.

The international community must do more to prevent attacks on education and protect children caught up in armed conflict.

GPE remains committed to support a quality education for all children in Somalia, working in close collaboration with education partners.
