GPE CEO statement on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

On this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, GPE reiterates the rights of all children and young people to a quality education, irrespective of their sexual orientation, gender expression or identity.

Violence in schools is a pervasive and worldwide problem. Students who are perceived not to conform to prevailing sexual and gender norms are more at risk of physical, sexual and psychological violence and bullying in and around schools.

School-related violence and bullying hinders a child’s ability to learn, thrive and reach their full potential. Only by making schools a safe place for all children to learn and develop can we unlock the transformative potential of education to create a better future for all.
