Today GPE Global Ambassador Rihanna receives the 2017 Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award from the Harvard Foundation for her work supporting education and health care in developing countries.

"Warm congratulations to Rihanna, GPE's Global Ambassador, on being honored as Harvard's Humanitarian of 2017" said Julia Gillard, Board Chair of the Global Partnership for Education. "Rihanna's voice will be critical during what we expect to be a historic year for global education. World leaders must step up to the challenge of addressing the needs of 260 million children currently not in school to ensure that every child, everywhere, has the opportunity of a quality education."

Rihanna became Global Ambassador for the Global Partnership for Education in September 2016, when a partnership between her foundation, the Clara Lionel Foundation, GPE and Global Citizen was announced on stage at the Global Citizen festival in Central Park.

Former recipients of this award include former UN Secretaries General Ban Ki-moon and Kofi Annan and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai.

GPE is proud to partner with Rihanna to ensure that more children in the world’s poorest countries can go to school and learn.
