The Board of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) intends to appoint a new Chair and Vice-Chair of its Board, to succeed the Hon. Julia Gillard AC and Minister Serigne Mbaye Thiam as they conclude their highly successful terms. The new Chair and Vice-Chair will build on the considerable achievements of GPE to date and champion its ambition to empower developing countries to transform education, with an explicit focus on diversity, inclusion, and the education of girls.
Founded in 2002, GPE has been delivering funds and supporting solutions to build strong and resilient education systems so that more children in the poorest countries, especially girls, get the education they need to contribute to building a more prosperous and sustainable world. GPE’s approach improves education at a systems level to create lasting change at scale. Since its creation, 160 million more children are in school in partner countries.
GPE has recently launched its fourth financing campaign, with the United Kingdom and Kenya as co-hosts, and aims to raise at least $5 billion to support the 2021-25 program of work. This resource will accelerate efforts to reach Sustainable Development Goal 4 through transformed education systems.
The Board of GPE embodies the partnership between governments, international organizations, civil society – including youth and teacher organizations – the private sector, and private foundations to transform education systems. The Chair and Vice-Chair will bring experience with governance and an understanding of best practices in the context of Board operations.
GPE actively seeks dynamic, creative, and visionary leaders from all over the world. It sees diversity as a strength and will extend its outreach in this effort as widely as possible.
The closing date for applications is January 18, 2021.
