Washington, D.C. , June 21, 2018 – The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is delighted that Julia Gillard will continue as GPE Board Chair for another two years. The extension of her term to February 2021 was unanimously agreed by the GPE Board of Directors.

“Julia Gillard has become one of the most recognized and powerful global advocates for ensuring the world’s children receive the quality education they deserve and need to thrive,” said Alice Albright, Chief Executive Officer at the Global Partnership for Education. “She has enormous intellect, passion and energy and helped to significantly raise GPE’s profile and mobilize increased political and financial support. I am very pleased that she’ll continue as our Board Chair and apply her many talents to achieving GPE’s important mission.”

Julia Gillard, Prime Minister of Australia from 2010 to 2013, first took on the role of GPE Board Chair in February 2014. As Board Chair, she has steered GPE through two successful replenishments and oversaw the development and implementation of a bold 5-year strategy and the transformation of GPE’s funding and financing framework.

In addition, she serves as Commissioner at the International Commission on Financing Global Education Opportunity, Chair of the Global Institute for Women's Leadership at King’s College, Patron at CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education and Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution.
