A vital human right, education plays a key role in human, social, and economic development. However, despite great progress in the last few years, millions of children are still denied their right to education. Lack of access to education is one of the most certain ways of transmitting poverty from generation to generation.

260 million children and youth were out of school in 2018.

GPE believes every girl and every boy should have the right to a quality education. To achieve this goal, GPE strengthens education systems and supports countries with the greatest needs, and the children and youth most often left behind. Giving these children access to quality education, will give them a chance to a brighter future.

The value of education

420 million people would be lifted out of poverty with a secondary education, thus reducing the number of poor worldwide by more than half.
A child whose mother can read is 50% more likely to live past the age of 5.
If every girl worldwide received 12 years of quality education, lifetime earnings for women could increase by US$15 trillion to US$30 trillion globally.
