This is the 4th blog in our series showcasing the winners of the African Union ‘Innovating Education in Africa’ program.

Digital innovation has become essential in our modern world. Magoé Education has emerged as a powerful e-learning application and management tool for schools and universities in Guinea.

Guinea is a country that faces 2 major challenges in its education system: the uneven distribution of teachers and teaching materials across the country, and overcrowded classrooms.

Teachers and resources are more concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural areas with a lack of access to quality education due to overcrowded classrooms, which in turn increases dropout rates.

Addressing the challenges by leveraging technology

Magoé Education is now changing the way students learn and how teachers teach. It is a solution for Guinea’s education system challenges that leverages technology and pedagogical integration, providing a platform for students, teachers, parents and school administrative staff to interact.

By analyzing student data, Magoé Education offers personalized courses and exercises, allowing each learner to progress at their own pace. The application is available both on the web and mobile platforms, ensuring accessibility for all.

Magoé Education has had a major impact on the education landscape in Guinea, with over 100 schools and more than 3,000 students now using the platform on a daily basis.

Uptake by the Ministry of Education in Guinea

The Magoé Education tool was enthusiastically adopted by Guinea’s Ministry and educational authorities, with the only foreseen hurdle being the timing of its rollout in the middle of the school year. To overcome this, user training will be conducted during the holidays to ensure a smooth integration within current teaching and learning practices.

Participating in and being awarded the AU Innovation Expo grant has been a true game-changer for Magoé Education, boosting confidence from both education ministries and the public, and facilitating collaboration with the government. Magoé Education was also able to use grant funds to improve the application.

In the next 12 months, Magoé Education aims to extend its reach to cover 30% of schools in Guinea. The larger vision for expansion will include neighboring countries such as Senegal, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Mali.

Magoé Education aims to contribute to addressing Guinea’s education challenges linked to the distribution of teachers, overcrowded classrooms and the lack of personalized learning.
