Numeracy webinar: The role of language in math literacy - Insights from sub-Saharan Africa

The webinar, held in celebration of International Mother Language Day, is the first in this year's webinar series of the numeracy for development community of practice (Numeracy CoP). The panelists will explore current classroom practices in early grades math teaching and learning in Sub-Saharan Africa, address key challenges in multilingual mathematics classrooms and discuss approaches to mitigate these challenges.

  • Mamokgethi Phakeng, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Internationalization and Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Cape Town 
  • Mercy Kazima, Associate Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Malawi
