This 3-day global education event will bring together stakeholders from around the world to collectively tackle education challenges by exploring entirely new approaches as well as offering participants a unique opportunity to agree on a shared vision and concrete action.

Through a mix of high-level plenaries, technical workshops, TED-style talks, networking spaces and other side events, the RewirEd Summit will focus on three main issues:

  • youth and future skills
  • education financing
  • innovation in education.

Monday, December 13

11:00-11:45 | High-Level Panel: The Future of Learning for All: EdTech and Learning Equity

  • GPE Speaker: Dr. Susan Liautaud, Vice-Chair, Global Partnership for Education (Moderator)
  • Summary: In many places, technology has created endless boundaries of where learning can occur, with whom, how and why. It is something that needs to be incorporated in the future of education to ensure students are equipped with the skills to cope in a world dependent on technology. The influence of AI and Machine Learning in EdTech is predicted to grow exponentially in the coming years, as is the use of Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). However, these new technologies are not accessible for over half of the world’s learners. This high-level panel will discuss current trends in the adoption of education technologies in various contexts, and how education in the future needs to demonstrate how technology can be used to students’ advantage everywhere, with equity of access at its core.

16:45-17:00 | High-Level Panel: Education & Climate Change: Education and its crucial role in combating the climate crises

  • GPE Speaker: Armel Azihar Sly-Vania, GPE Youth Leader, Comoros
  • Summary: Education is a powerful society-wide lever for climate action, but education has not been prioritized as a solution to climate change. This session will discuss the broader context and challenge at hand, explore synergies and opportunities between education and climate change, and discuss concrete routes of action by global leaders.

  • GPE Speaker: Maryjacob Okwuosa, GPE Youth Leader, Nigeria
  • Summary: Rewiring of education requires three things: the political ambition to drive change, financing to fuel action, and the right evidence to unlock effective solutions. This plenary will shed light on the political leadership and commitment already in motion to improve volume, equity and efficiency to domestic financing for education.

12:05 – 12:50 | Domestic financing: translating commitments into action

  • Summary: The Day 3 opening plenary demonstrated the importance of high-level political will for a step change public financing for education – to ensure an adequate and sustainable flow of resources to the sector for equitable and efficient delivery of quality education. This panel discussion will explore what more equitable and efficient financing looks like in practice, with insights from countries as well as multilateral agencies. It will also highlight the importance of knowledge exchange across partners to better understand evidence of what works for domestic financing.

13:15-14:00 | To pool or not to pool – pooled funds and their contribution to the provision of quality education programming

  • Summary: Global funds have transformed the delivery of EiE - connecting education stakeholders to deliver collaborative and rapid responses for children and youth affected by crises. Join us to discuss the benefits and challenges and how we can work together to ensure global funds continue to achieve maximum impact in communities.

14:25 – 15:10 | Launch of the Arab Coordination Group Smart Education Financing Initiative (SmartEd)

  • GPE Speaker: Maryjacob Okwuosa, GPE Youth Leader, Nigeria
  • Summary: The Arab Coordination Group’s (ACG) Smart Education Finance Initiative (SmartEd) is an innovative approach to radically scale up education finance for Organization Islamic Cooperation (OIC) members countries. ACG SmartEd is jointly designed by the Arab Coordination Group, with leadership from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
