Thanks to the World Bank, the Kaduna State government in Nigeria is distributing US$21.6 million in scholarship to increase access to quality basic education for girls in primary school. 8,050 girls and 1,047 female teachers will each receive N45,000 under this partnership between GPE and Nigeria.

The project is also allocating grants to early childhood care and development schools and Islamiyya institutions to improve infrastructure. Noting that schools that benefitted from grants in 2016 across the state recorded increased enrollment, the Chairman of basic education hopes the project will help retain these girls in primary school through junior secondary school.
