Op-ed: An education crisis for all
In this op-ed, Alice Albright argues that at a time when the world should be progressing rapidly toward achieving SDG 4, it faces a deepening crisis instead.
If the status quo persists, 825 million of the 1.6 billion young people alive in 2030 will not have the skills needed to thrive economically. Girls face additional challenges such as cultural norms, gender-based violence, and early marriage. Conflict and insecurity exacerbate the problem. In the Sahel region alone, attacks on schools and teachers by extremist groups have disrupted the education of more than 400,000 children
To address it, the G7 and developing countries alike must offer concrete commitments that match the scale of the challenge.
