WASHINGTON D.C, March 7, 2024 - I strongly condemn the abduction by gunmen of more than 100 children and one teacher at their school in the town of Kuriga, Kaduna State, Nigeria, today.

This act of violence against children who are seeking an education cannot be tolerated. Every child has a right to an education, free from fear and violence. We must ensure that schools provide a safe environment for students and teachers.

I send my support to all the families affected and I hope for a quick and safe return of all the children and their teacher to their loved ones.
