Aid to education
In addition to foreign policy, diplomacy and trade, Global Affairs Canada (GAC) administers foreign aid programs in developing countries.
Canada’s new feminist international assistance policy promotes gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
In an effort to better support equal educational opportunities for women and girls in developing countries, Canada:
- Supports programs and advocacy efforts that help women and girls get the skills training and education they need to succeed.
- Works to ensure that school facilities are welcoming spaces that respond to the specific needs of girls.
- Supports programs and partners that help those who have missed out on the opportunity to complete a quality education.
In 2017, the top recipients of basic education ODA disbursement were: Senegal, Bangladesh, Mali, Haiti, Jordan.
