The October numeracy webinar of the Global Partnership for Education will focus on quality early grade mathematics assessments.  Children take a variety of mathematics assessments in their early grade mathematics careers, and each assessment provides different information. Some assessments guide teachers’ instruction, other assessments provide insight into how students understand mathematics knowledge and how they apply skills.  However, since assessments are often based on the specifics of the children’s learning environments, it is important to develop quality assessments that are comparable to get better data for educators.

Dr. Leanne Ketterlin Geller, Associate Professor and Director of Research in Mathematics Education at Southern Methodist University, United States, will be our October numeracy webinar speaker. She will talk about technically adequate early grade mathematics measures that are used in a developing country context.  Dr. Ketterlin Geller will also present case studies and recommend how early grade mathematics assessments can be used in other country contexts.

The webinar series is part of a Community of Practice on Numeracy facilitated by the Global Partnership for Education. The community of practice is open to teachers, educators, practitioners, researchers, academics and others interested in numeracy.
