$22m for School Reconstruction and Education Development in Haiti

Washington, DC, March 24, 2010 – As a response to the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, donors of the EFA FTI approved today the rapid release of emergency funding to restore Haiti’s education sector. The funding is part of a US$ 22 million grant that was originally allocated in September 2009, which will be partly restructured.

The World Bank will be the Supervising Entity for the CF allocation, which will support work in the following areas:

  • Support to non-public schools for teacher compensation ($ 15 million)
  • Introduce services for early child development/pre-school ($ 1 million)
  • School feeding ($5 million)
  • Reconstruction of Ministry of Education capacities, including central and decentralized Ministry of Education structures ($1 million)
